What You Need To Know For Your First Chiropractic Visit

Are you considering visiting a chiropractor for the first time but feeling unsure or nervous about what to expect? You're not alone. Many people are curious about chiropractic care but may have questions or uncertainties about their first appointment. Today I’ll walk you through what typically happens during your initial visit, from the moment you arrive at the clinic to the treatment you receive.

Getting Started

New patients should set aside about 60 minutes for their first visit with Dr. Chad. Each subsequent appointment will be shorter. During your first chiropractic appointment, you'll start with a discussion about your overall health, followed by a physical exam, a review of your medical history, possible referral for  x-rays, and cover any financial or insurance details, similar to other medical appointments.

At our clinic, we also have a new patient form that you can print and fill out prior to your visit. Doing this now will ensure a smoother visit, and give you time to relax before your appointment with Dr. Chad.

Once the paperwork has been completed, Dr. Chad will spend some time getting to know you and the reason for your visit. This is a great opportunity to learn more about your condition. He will then determine if chiropractic care is right for you. This is a free consultation.

What should I wear to my first chiropractic appointment?

Wear loose and comfortable clothing to allow for easy examination and testing. If you have to work on the day of your appointment, bring a change of clothes for a smoother examination. Choose outfits that are easy to move in, like workout clothes.

Will you receive an adjustment on the first visit?

Chiropractic adjustments, muscle work such as stretching, or additional therapies are typically performed on the first appointment unless more serious conditions need to be ruled out. Dr. Chad may decide to wait until the second visit for treatment based on the findings of the examination or X-rays. All treatment will be explained prior to having anything done, as we want you to be as comfortable as possible and decrease any stress you may be having.

What questions should you ask a chiropractor?

Prepare questions specific to your condition, focusing on techniques, recommendations, references, the number of visits needed, and preventive measures. There are no wrong questions so also be sure to ask any questions regarding chiropractic care in general or any concerns you may have about your appointment or your health.

Post-Appointment Care

After your appointment, we may provide recommendations for at-home care and follow-up appointments. These may include exercises, stretches, or ergonomic modifications to support your treatment plan. It's crucial to follow these instructions and attend any recommended follow-up appointments.
